Wetherby Whaler York welcomed Mikron Theatre Company to perform its Fishy Tale

The Wetherby Whaler in York welcomed the acclaimed Mikron Theatre Company for an evening of the very best in British theatre and food.

The much-loved Yorkshire fish and chip chain was proud to present the comedy ‘One of Each’, which was performed at the restaurant by the renowned theatre company.

The show, written by award-winning Playwright and Actor, Deborah McAndrew, best known for her role as Angie Freeman in Coronation Street, is a tale of storms at sea, saucy secrets and sibling rivalry. It centres around two rival fish and chip establishments owned by siblings who are battling it out for the coveted title of ‘Golden Fish Fork.’

Established in 1972, The Mikron Theatre Company tours with a cast of four actors and throughout its 44 years has performed for more than 312,000 people.

The company tours the country on a narrowboat in the summer and by road in the autumn, performing at a whole host of quirky venues, including allotments, dry docks and pubs.

The Wetherby Whaler group is a leading player in the popular fish and chip restaurant and take-away market in Yorkshire. Established in 1989 by Phillip and Janine Murphy, it has five high quality fish and chip restaurants and takeaways in York, Wetherby, Wakefield, Guiseley and Pudsey and serves more than 1.25 million portions of fish and chips each year.

Phillip Murphy said: "We were delighted to welcome the esteemed Mikron Theatre Company to our restaurant in York. It was a fantastic performance and, as a family-based fish and chip business, it was great to see a comedy that centres around sibling rivalry in the fish and chip trade – not a depiction of us, I hasten to add!"

Pete Toon, Producer at The Mikron Theatre Company, said: "I am extremely proud of The Mikron Theatre Company’s performance of ‘One of Each’, which was just fantastic.

"The Wetherby Whaler York was the perfect arena to showcase the performance, so I’d like to thank the team at the restaurant for hosting the show."
