A budding artist has won a prestigious opportunity that will see her artwork featured throughout one of Yorkshire’s best-known fish and chip chains.
Sofia Di Giorno, 7, was the lucky winner of the Wetherby Whaler’s birthday card design competition, which she began creating while dining at its Wakefield restaurant.
Sofia’s artistic effort was selected out of more than 120 entrants from the Whaler’s Kids Club.
The Wetherby Whaler’s Kids Club, which is for young customers aged between three and 11, presents its members with a birthday card on their birthday, as well as a free meal. It also has a loyalty scheme that offers another free meal after five visits to any of the Whalers’ five restaurants.
The Wetherby Whaler is a leading player in the popular fish and chip restaurant and take-away market in Yorkshire. In addition to Wakefield, it has restaurants and takeaways in York, Pudsey, Wetherby and Guiseley.
Janine Murphy, owner of the Wetherby Whaler, who selected the winning design, said: “I would like to congratulate Sofia, who was a deserving winner of our competition, on her fantastic design. Everyone agreed that her drawing was great and is very impressive for someone of her age.
“We were delighted with the interest shown in our competition and I would like to thank all the members of our Kids Club who took part.”
