Wildcats take on Wetherby Whaler
Sunday 08th November, 2015
Wetherby Whaler’s new mascot, Wally, was joined by several members of the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats’ team including their mascot, Daddy Cool, when they stopped by the Wakefield restaurant of the much loved fish and chip chain for a spot of lunch.
The fan favourite Daddy Cool was joined by Wildcat players Kevin Locke, Scott Anderson and Nick Scruton as they sampled the menu at the Calder Island restaurant. Never one to shy away from a challenge, starting prop Nick Scruton tackled the Whaler’s signature giant haddock, just about finishing the whale sized fillet of fish.
The visit was the ideal opportunity for Wetherby Whaler’s own mascot to meet his Wildcat counterpart. The two seemed to get along just fine, playing around and posing for photos with staff and customers.
This will be the second season that family-run Wetherby Whaler has sponsored Daddy Cool having begun their relationship with the rugby league club last season.
Phillip Murphy, Co-owner of the Wetherby Whaler, said: "Within Wakefield the Wildcats are a source of local pride and we are delighted to be able to support them.
"It was fantastic to have Kevin, Scott and Nick visit us with Daddy Cool. Our customers got a real surprise to see the players and mascots in the restaurant.
"Everyone was all too happy to sign autographs and it was great for Wally and Daddy Cool to finally meet. I think they really hit it off!"
Phillip added: "We’re proud to support our local teams and we wish the Wildcats all the best for the rest of the season."
Trinity Wildcat prop, Nick Scruton, added: "I would like to thank the Wetherby Whaler for supporting Daddy Cool and the team - and for the lunch!
"The fish and chips were as fantastic as always. The other lads were very jealous that we got to visit, so we will have to organise a team meal here to make up for it!"
In addition to Wakefield, Wetherby Whaler has strong connections throughout Yorkshire with other restaurants and takeaways in Pudsey, Guiseley, Wetherby and York. Always keen to support local sport, Wetherby Whaler sponsors a number of teams, both professional and amateur, in the areas around its restaurants.
