Chippy musical comes to the home of fish and chips in Guiseley
Friday 10th June, 2016
Patrons of Wetherby Whaler’s Guiseley restaurant, the original Harry Ramsdens restaurant, will be able to enjoy a meal of fish and chips, with a side order of UK grime and brass music when #ChipShopTheMusical visits on June 23.
The performance at the Wetherby Whaler will be the final enactment of the show produced by Freedom Studios, written by Emma Hill, as part of the Yorkshire festival, an 18 day celebration of the arts which sees shows, events and exhibitions held across the region.
The musical, which is set in a Yorkshire fish and chip shop, follows shy teenager Ayla, who blags a job in her local fish and chip shop, whilst secretly harbouring ambitions of a grime music career. She goes on to forge an unlikely musical alliance with her brass band-loving boss - can they find a path to greatness before personal and business pressures force them apart?
Phillip Murphy, co-owner of the Wetherby Whaler, said: “#ChipShopTheMusical is a really unique production and a fantastic underdog story. I couldn’t think of a better venue to end the run of shows than our Guiseley restaurant. Being the original Harry Ramsdens restaurant, it is the spiritual home of fish and chips, and sits in the heart of Yorkshire.”
#ChipShopTheMusical comes to Wetherby Whaler Guiseley on June 23. Tickets are £10 or £12 and include a meal of fish and chips or a vegetarian option. To book call the restaurant on 01943 884228 or visit to buy in person.
